I have a story to tell about my father and his brothers. In the 1920’s in the space of eight years they learnt the game of polo and went to England where they were an outstanding success. Yes, they were good sportsmen. They were rated by the Hurlingham Polo Club at 26 goals, being three 7 goal players and a 5 goal player. An extraordinary achievement in such a short period of time. The four young men had shipped their 25 horses from Australia to England and played the full English Season with distinction before heading across the Atlantic to Long Island in New York State. After playing against America’s best, winning five out of seven games, all 25 horses were put to auction and sold.
